Research Associate - Baumann Lab
at Howard Hughes Medical Institute
We have an exciting postdoctoral position available in the laboratory of HHMI Investigator, Peter Baumann. Successful candidates will have access to the state-of-the-art core facilities at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as exceptional resources available through Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Project Title: Non-coding RNA biogenesis, quality control and regulation in fission yeast.
Our group has previously shown that processing of the fission yeast telomerase RNA subunit involves a single cleavage event by the spliceosome (Nature 2008; 456:910). We subsequently defined how spliceosomal cleavage differs from canonical splicing (G & D 2013; 27:627) and revealed that the process it is not restricted to S. pombe, but is widespread among fungi (Nature Comm. 2015; 6:6104). A postdoctoral position is now available to study the role and regulation of spliceosomal cleavage as a 3’ end processing mechanism in non-coding RNA biogenesis as well as its function in the regulation of gene expression.
Ph.D. in genetics, biochemistry or a related field with expertise in RNA biology and/or working with fission yeast.
