Jobing Description
The Medical Director of Hospice has overall responsibility for the care and treatment of patients and their families rendered by the hospice care team and will consult and cooperate with the patient's attending physician. The Medical Director provides physician direction and guidance to the hospice program and its employees to ensure the maintenance of quality standards of care for patient and families.
Primary Responsibilities:
--Educates practicing doctors and others engaged in health care services regarding the hospice program and its potential benefits to patients.
--Evaluation of: certification of terminal prognosis of patients, quality of initial plans of care and comprehensive plans of care, accuracy of documentation, revocations, re-certification of terminal prognosis, quality of pain and symptom management.
--Supervision of Associate Medical Directors (home care and inpatient)
--Management collaboration
--Community Relations
--Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medical care, with at least a working knowledge of oncology
--Working knowledge in the principles of palliative medicine and symptom management
--Knowledge of palliative care with particular emphasis on control of symptoms associated with terminal illness
--Ability to work collaboratively with patient's attending physician(s) to implement the hospice program
--Ability to work collaboratively with hospice employees and volunteers as part of an interdisciplinary team
Skills / Requirements
--Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy licensed to practice medicine in the state of the Colorado.
--Board certification in a primary care specialty
--Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Care, preferred
--Greater than 5 years of health care business management, preferred
